In London for a short amount of time? Here are a few things to check out while you’re there!
First thing to note about London is there is no parking! If you have a car I suggest you park it outside the city at a train stop where you can pay to leave it overnight and just take the train in. I had this sweet Fiat to take me around for the weekend. Don’t forget to mind the gap!
Of course, every morning must start with some coffee. And maybe some marble coffee cake too.
Platform 9 ¾
Being a Harry Potter fan, I had to visit King’s Cross Station to see Platform 9 3/4. Unfortunately, it isn’t actually on the platform. There was a huge line to take a picture which I wasn’t willing to wait in. I walked to the front and snapped a picture of a random person. There was also a small Harry Potter store near by.
Buckingham Palace – Changing of the Guard
The Changing of the Guard at the Buckingham Palace is another popular destination. It starts at 11:00, so try to arrive a little early to claim a spot as people will start piling up at the fence.
Borough Market
If you like food then the Borough Market is a great place to check out. I had some nice mulled wine and a few oysters. They’re open everyday, but only a limited portion of the market is open on Monday and Tuesday.
Big Ben
First timers in London will have to visit the iconic Big Ben at the Houses of Parliament. The clock chimes every hour and every 15 minutes.
London Eye
Near Big Ben and across the River Thames is the London Eye and County Hall. Catching a ride in The London Eye will get you a sweet view of the city.
Stonehenge
Stonehenge is about 90 miles (144 km) from London proper. You can train into Salisbury and take a tour bus from there to Stonehenge. You can also book a tour that takes you from London to Stonehenge. I had a car so I did the drive myself to make sure I could spend as much time as I wanted at Stonehenge.
Stonehenge is a weird attraction. I imagine this site was created by a giant in ancient times playing with rocks. I was there on a foggy day so the whole area had this ominous vibe.
Simple and to the point. Keep going!
